The Director of Special Programs ensures the success of Special Education programs at the school. This role is responsible for developing and implementing operations and procedures related to special programs throughout the school framework, in alignment with all local, state, and federal guidelines and all compliance reporting. This position has the responsibility to manage all support staff whose direct focus is on special programs compliance through informed oversight, placement activities, effective program design and measurement, and serving as a resource to teachers and administrators. Develop and disseminate \"best practices\" for special education under IDEA in the virtual school setting Develop and maintain special education operations including but not limited to roles and tasks under related services, school psychologists, student evaluation coordination, testing and compliancy coordinators, and special education enrollment Collaborates with the Director of Academic to implement special programs in various settings for ELL, Advanced Learners, and students with a 504 plan; Works with staff to carry out successful special programs, with full visibility and accountability for the implementation of school processes, providing training and support as needed Creates and helps implement Advanced Learner programs and course placements for appropriate middle school and high school students; Oversee the development and maintenance of all IEPs; while implementing methods to assure both qualitative and quantitative compliancy as well as measurable student growth Collaborate with MTSS teams to implement policies and procedures as needed for Child Find compliance, such as screening, evaluation, eligibility determination, and educational placement Provide professional development opportunities and resources on special programs-related issues for all school stakeholders, including school personnel, families and contracted service providers Collaborate with Business Managers at the school to prepare a budgetary plan to provide financial support for special programs; Oversee the timely completion of periodic reports as required for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies Approve contracts with third-party agencies for related services, prioritizing high quality services at a reasonable cost to the school Work collaboratively with other school-based divisions and departments to meet school goals, budgetary needs, alignment and implementation of programs, services, and operations, and to improve efficiency and effectiveness of division operations, programs, and services; Coordinates with other departments to implement and maintain integrated student data; Works with the enrollment team to ensure timely and accurate placement, and the meeting of timelines for related services and Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation; Ensures funding is allotted accurately for all special education students enrolled for federal and state counting purposes, and for local district reporting Travel, as required, to support students and staff in implementation of special education services Promote and support the mission and vision of the school milieu and the overall progress of the school-wide plan Collaborate with school academic leaders in ensuring quality differentiated instruction to students served under special programs using school provided resources and programs. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises the special education teaching and support staff including but not limited to the special programs administrative team, related services team, school psychologists, special education administrative assistant, and registrar as well as additional office staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
